Divyajyotee Sharma, who essays the role of Pinky Chachi in Star Plus’ Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, produced by Cinevistaas thanks the almighty for keeping her alive to see the new dawn. Wondering why we are using such big adjectives? Well, the actress escaped unhurt even after her room caught fire, that too at the wee hours of 4 am in the early morning. This incident happened in the early morning of 10 November (2012).
Divyajyotee resides in an independent bungalow in Lokhandwala, a duplex building where her room is situated in the first floor.
So what caused the fire break? We asked Divyajyotee who in a state of shock answered, “Well, I was still awake watching the movie Devdas. That is when at 4 in the morning I decided to sleep and switched on my air conditioner using the remote. And within a split second, there was a ‘Boom’, just as you see in the movies. The AC exploded and caught fire, and I did not know what to do. I immediately got out of the bed and asked my little girl (the girl Divyajyotee is raising as her daughter) to go out of the room. We immediately called the fire brigade but unfortunately, could not get through the line. By this time, the AC was melting and dropping out with fire spreading to my dressing table, portraits hanging on the wall and dressing mirror. We opened the doors and windows, switched off the main electric supply and started pouring water over the AC duct. By 5 in the morning we could finally extinguish the fire in the room, but by then the damage was done. But thankfully, we are still alive. My room is in bad shape, and I have been calling the electricians to rectify the lines. I need to repaint the room which I had made just three months back. I also need to furnish my room with a dressing table, and buy myself cosmetics. All that is secondary, as I wish to go to a temple nearby, and thank God for saving us from this horrible accident.”
Divyajyotee, we are indeed glad that you are fit and fine today. May God give you the strength to come out of this shock…
