TellyChakkar caught with Khan on the eve of the launch of DID Lil Masters to know about her future plans and her newest association with Zee TV. What prompted you to take up Dance India Dance? I love it and I want to encourage good talent and the show does just that. There were rumours that you shifted your loyalties to Zee due to some issues and dispute with Sony Entertainment Television? There is absolutely no dispute with Sony and I agreed to judge DID purely because I loved the show. According to the new format, the previous contestants of DID would be the skippers and mentors to the kids, would you in any way be a mentor to the skippers? No, I am purely a judge and I had made it clear in the beginning itself that I would stick to being a judge and not a mentor. How difficult do you find to handle and choreograph kids? It’s not difficult to handle kids, because I have three of my own. I know how to deal with them and am polite to them. I feel it is more difficult to handle the parents because they have a tendency to pressurize the children. Do you think reality shows of such kind affect the education of children, especially if they have to miss school and studies? That is the reason why DID Lil masters is being started during holidays where the kids do not have to miss school. DID Lil Masters is a kind of a workshop where kids get to learn different kinds of dance forms during their holidays. What dance form did you like to watch when you were young? I loved watching Helen when I was young and loved performing on a duet with my partner. How is your rapport with Sandip Soparrkar who is your co-judge in the show? I know Sandip from the time I did Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Sandip was the technical dancer then and we share a good rapport. You have done a wide variety of reality shows, right from singing talent hunts, to dance shows to something like Entertainment ke Liye Kucch Bhi Karega, what do you enjoy doing the most? I enjoyed Indian Idol 1 a lot and then the other seasons became a little boring. I loved Jhalak Dikhla Jaa season 1 as well. But I loved being a part of Entertainment… . That has been my favourite till date. What would be your message to people who want to make a career in dancing? Learn Indian classical dance because I believe it is the foundation for any kind of dance. It is important to know the basics to be able to move ahead.
