MUMBAI: Shobhaa De, the famous author and critic has again made headlines and this time the Khans are in the picture. The author who is known to be outspoken is usually rebuked by the actor and actress for her harsh critics. In 2010, when Dabangg was released, everyone loved it for its amazing story and soundtrack. The Arbaaz Khan-produced movie was a success at the box office.
Shortly after its release, Shobhaa De wrote a scathing review of Dabangg. As per the Indian Express, the author wrote, “The one scene that really and truly created history and will go down as an astonishing cinematic moment is the one of Salman Khan’s shirt tearing, popping and flying off his back… all by itself! The shirt deserves a special award for performing this remarkable feat – perhaps; it marks a first in world cinema!” She continued, “Those looking for a plot,be warned – it is flimsier than Munni’s (Malaika in a sizzling item number that out-beedis Bipasha’s) barely-there costumes. Both are ‘badnaam’.”

It was quite evident that De was unhappy with the movie and she even took advantage of Salman Khan’s controversy at that time. Salman Khan was embroiled in controversy at the time for the comments he made about the Mumbai terrorist incident of 26/11. Irked De tweeted on her platform, she wrote, "Salman Khan's startling statement about 26/11 smells of arrogance, ignorance, and simple stupidity." Sallu Bhai, a weak apology will not suffice. Dabangg should be boycotted.”
This vexed Arbaz Khan.He replied by saying, "Hey guys, what's your opinion on Shobha De, a writer of sleazy and pornographic novels?" in response to Shobhaa De's tweet. She writes a lot of sh*# about Salman and Malaika.Her claim to fame is marrying some rich industrialist. I’m not sure if it’s 3 or 4. Pl lemme know”.
Arbaaz then launched a Twitter smear campaign against the author. He also tweeted, “Mr De, hold on to your money, or Shobha at 60 can still compete with Elizabeth Taylor. One thought that age makes you wiser but unfortunately, it’s not happening in the case of Shobhaa who is 60… Shobhaa’s opinions on my family reeks of bias, jealousy and frustration. I have been ignoring her comments for the longest time but no more…”
Shobhaa De has always hit out at actors and actresses with her sharp words. The busy mother of 6 children has usually landed up in controversy for her reviews.
