Must Read! List of Bollywood films where Cricket was the subject-line

Bollywood is well known for making movies based on Cricket
Iqbal

MUMBAI: Ranveer Singh’s ’83 trailer, directed by Kabir Khan is pure goosebumps and has been hailed far and wide as one of the best trailers ever produced by Bollywood. It narrates the real-life tale of how Kapil Dev’s team of underdogs triumphed at the biggest stage of cricket when nobody gave them a chance in hell, a moment that metamorphosed India into the centre of world cricket.

However, let’s pause and look back at some of Bollywood’s best movies based on the beautiful sport of cricket…

All-Rounder (1984)

Like cricket, Kumar Gaurav and Vinod Mehra’s All-Rounder is about redemptions and comebacks.

Kabhie Ajnabi The (1985)

'Kabhie Ajnabi The' actually stars World Cup heroes Sandeep Patil and Syed Kirmani in lead roles.

Awwal Number (1990)

Aamir Khan and Dev Anand have done better movies, but Awwal Number is still a nostalgic ride.

Lagaan (2001)

Not just India’s greatest movie on cricket, but one of Indian cinema’s finest masterpieces ever.

Iqbal (2005)

Shreyas Talpade and Naseeruddin Shah’s Iqbal is the story of every small-town boy with dreams.

Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii (2007)

The Rahul Bose starrer is a nice tribute to Sachin Tendulkar when he was facing a rough patch.

Dil Bole Hadippa (2009)

It has its issues, but watch it for Rani Mukerji’s stupendous performance.

As biopics go, few have matched the calibre of Neeraj Pandey’s MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.
