Inkaar's ending did not click with audiences: Chitrangada Singh

Chitrangada Singh who is busy promoting her next film I Me Aur Main – which also co -stars John Abraham and Prachi Desai– is taking the not so successful run of her last release Sudhir Mishra’s Inkaar in her stride. “Ideally both the films should not have released so close to each other. The former was supposed to have released in October (2012), but it got delayed (to Jan 2013) due to Chakravyuh which also starred Arjun Rampal again. Luckily both the films are completely different, so it’s fine.”

The former was supposed to have released in October (2012), but it got delayed (to Jan 2013) due to Chakravyuh which also starred Arjun Rampal again. Luckily both the films are completely different, so it’s fine.” She goes on, “Since Inkaar was a Viacom 18 Motion Pictures product everybody worked so hard. The feedback what I am getting is that may be the love story or the ending did not click with certain sections of the audience. They felt that if my character Maya was really modern she should not have gone with Arjun rather she should have become the next CEO of the company. The screen play and storytelling also was lacking somewhere I guess.” Chitrangada who has had a mixed bag journey in Bollywood (Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Sorry Bhai and Yeh Saali Zindagi etc) so far says, “Although I am not a 100 crore club actor yet all my films have made a mark. Inkaar will remain my favorite film as an actor. But yes I was disappointed that it did not do as well as we expected it to do.” So how do you deal with such situations? “You don’t have a choice, we just need to focus on what’s next and work even harder. But yes I always have been trying to do something different e.g. an item number (Joker).” Talking about her character in I Me Aur Main, she says, “My character Anushka and Ishaan (John) are in a live in relationship and things are not working out. He is still a boy and not a man, he is also commitment phobic. She is very successful in career and now wants to settle down. It is a very sweet comic film non preachy quite different from Inkaar. I really can’t say much about my character for that is part of twist what happens to Ishaan because of me.” This is Chitrangada’s second film with John after Desi Boyz, but they were not paired together then. “He is a very easy going great guy, and quite simple. If am standing near the monitor after the shot he would not have any qualms like most about asking how the shot was?” All the best, Chitrangada.
