MUMBAI: Riya Deepsi in this exclusive interview with Tellychakkar.com talks about her web series Mombian – Gul & Sakshi Ki Pyaaari Si Love Story. The actress talks about her character Gul in the web series and also what made her say yes to the project.

Well, the series is about two girls who are in love, who wants to join the journey of a mother and enjoy motherhood. In this story, you will get to see a bond between two girls who wanted to become a mother. How they fight with society to experience the joy of motherhood. The whole point of the story is why can’t two girls who are in love be the mother of a child.

The web series is the story of two girls Gul and Sakshi and I am playing the role of Gul. Sakshi is my partner who will get pregnant and I am here to support her. To take care of her during this journey. My character is someone you can rely on, She is the strong one in a relationship. She is like a protective partner. There is one more track that involves Gul's family and Sakshi's family. Through this web series, we are trying to tell that the acceptance of such people is very important in our society.
Riya Deepsi on what made you say yes to the project
The character and the story of the web series. I have never seen somebody has ever come up with such Idea and said that yes we can make a story about a lesbian couple who wants to have a baby. Other than that I felt the character of Gul is very strong to portray on screen. As an actor, I always thought about how I will give justice to this character.
She further adds, this is a very sensitive topic and I thought many times before saying yes to the project not I have a problem with this character but as an actor, I have never played a character like this. Secondly, my audience loves me in the character of Gandhari. My only agenda was that my audience should learn about this topic through me. I really admire Ayushman Khurrana's work especially in the film Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. During that time I was shooting for Mombian and I thought this man is amazing, every time he comes out with a different topic which is unusual for the actors to accept it and also for people to accept. We need actors like Ayushmann Khurrana to play the characters that are so sensitive. Of course, he is a big influence and a very big fan following and through such films, he can spread awareness in society about the LGBT community. I was happy that I can contribute to spreading awareness about the same as he is doing.
