A sneak peek into Amita's sasural in Amita Ka Amit

We have already carried an article informing you what kind of a husband Amit will be and what her father-in-law will be like. However how can an Indian soap have drama if the bride’s mother-in-law and bhabhi don’t complicate things for her? In fact that is exactly what will happen on Sony Entertainment Television’s Amita Ka Amit (Swastik Productions).

Amita hasn’t turned out to be the bride Falguni (Meenal Vijay Pendse) had envisioned for her son Amit. She is after all a socialite lady who seriously feels that her ‘clumsy’ daughter-in-law needs refinement. Speaking on her role Meenal says, “Falguni didn’t hail from an affluent family but got married into one. She has polished herself and is now a typically high society mother. As she is fixated on all things being prim and proper, she is also looking for a perfectionist bride. You may say that she is the quintessential Nita Ambani.” Is Falguni the evil saas? Meenal doesn’t think so. She reasons, “Falguni is also a docile and quiet lady with a lot of warmth and grace. Like all Indian mothers she is too much into her son. The saas bahu friction on our show won’t be of the exaggerated version that you usually see on TV.” Both Falguni and her bhabhi Riya will try to groom Amita into being a polished bride. Nidhi Tikoo who plays Riya says, “I play a grey character. Riya is a haughty girl hailing from a rich family. When Amita enters the household there are constant comparisons between the two bahus. Riya is sophisticated whereas Amita is stupid. Both are poles apart. On her face Riya is nice to her sister-in-law. They don’t fight; their tiffs are more subtle. She will apparently help her groom but at the end of the day she will do something to undo everything. For instance she will make her jog all day long and then give her a chocolate to eat.” Shouldn’t Riya’s husband Rohan stop his wife from mistreating Amita? Manas Shah who plays Rohan explains, “The bullying is so subtle that Rohan fails to notice it and hence doesn’t stop it. Amita suffers from an inferiority complex on meeting her sister-in-law.” A romantic Rohan is a foil to his prosaic elder brother Amit. Manas elaborated, “Amit follows a time-table and is hardworking. My character follows shortcuts and tries to do things smartly. Amit abides by the truth whereas Rohan lies when he thinks it is necessary. He advises his elder brother to dress well to impress girls and to blush.” Agreed, that Amita needs to inculcate some refinement with her. That will however come more naturally when she learns to love herself and gains confidence. Also don’t Amita’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law also need to learn to be simple and straightforward like her? Meenal says, “Falguni does understand that Amita is a cute girl. She starts to find sweetness in her clumsiness as well. Women in high society often lose their simplicity. There comes a point in life that Amita stands up to Falguni’s mark, and Falguni also starts appreciating the simplicity that she has.” Amita, who will start off as a fish out of water in her sasural will gradually gain acceptance. Hopefully she will ultimately be the apple of the eye of the Shah household. Currently, Amit’s nani and dadi (enacted by Meenal Patel and Raksha Desai respectively) fight over whom their grandson Amit loves more. Who knows-, maybe one day they will argue over whom their grand daughter-in-law Amita loves more?
