Sushmita Mukherjee from Jagannath Aur Purvi Ki Dosti Anokhi finds it disheartening to see how under-appreciated stay-at-home wiv

MUMBAI: A selfless housewife contributes everything she has to her house, her husband, her children and the family as a whole. She always keeps the interest of the others before her own. Although her hard work is often considered as one of her duties and seen as a responsibility of a ‘good housewife’ by the society. Actor Sushmita Mukherjee who essays the character of Kusum, wife of Jagannath Mishra in Sony Entertainment Television's slice of life drama 'Jagannath Aur Purvi Ki Dosti Anokhi' expresses her views on this subject, stating how housewives or homemakers are under-appreciated till date.

During the course of the show viewers have witnessed how Kusum Mishra is a dedicated and loving wife to Jagannath Mishra. She has always stood by him in good and bad times. She is a woman who has sacrificed her desires, longings and fears for the sake of her family. While the differences between her kids and Jagannath continue to grow, Kusum has always been the middleman to the tug-of-war between her husband and her kids. While she adores them equally and often finds herself in the crossfire between them. While she does everything for them, somewhere her efforts go unnoticed and is hardly ever acknowledged.

It’s upsetting to see that women who are the backbone of the society and play a pivotal role in every family are not given the much needed appreciation they deserve. Actor Sushmita Mukherjee finds it disheartening to realise how under-appreciated stay-at-home wives and mothers are. They work round the clock, yet they don’t get the respect that they truly deserve.

Sharing more on the same, Actress Sushmita Mukherjee says, "Housewives have always been the backbone of a household, thereby in some way also becoming the backbone of the society. She is the oil of the machine that is called 'family'. Earlier it was considered that women can’t juggle personal and professional lives. Women who chose to work were looked down upon because apparently it implied that they didn’t care about their family. However, I am so glad that times have changed and how! Now, women are driven by their ambitions to move ahead in life and contribute to the family's expenditure and at the same time, ensure her family’s well being. Women are truly enjoying the best of both worlds. However, as a society we are lacking somewhere, it’s the fact that we under-appreciate stay-at-home mothers and wives who are also toiling tirelessly but are not rewarded with any sort of acknowledgement. It’s disheartening at times to see this. In the show, Jagannath respects and loves his wife a lot but having brought up in a conservative family he never expresses it and feels that woman is only supposed to look after the family rather than getting into any sort of decision making. But, with Purvi’s entry in their life, Jagannath’s  views changes about this which is a good step towards a much needed change.  ”
