TellyChakkar got in touch with Sumati who spoke at length about the show and much more.

If you got a chance to star in any iconic show on the small screen, which would that be and why?

I was crazy about a show named Love Story. I was quite young when this show used to air on TV. It used to air on Sony SAB. I was a diehard fan of this show. I was in love and had a major crush on the show's hero Mishal Raheja. My mom used to scold me a lot but I never used to miss that show. If that show comes up with a new season, I want to play the lead role. It was an amazing show and very close to my heart.

We all know Meethila Modi's character in the show is quite important. If you had to portray her role for a day in your way, how would you do it?

Meethila Modi's character is very important and Rupal ji is playing it beautifully. It is very difficult to step into such an iconic character's shoes. If I get a chance to play as per my way, I might bring some twist and bring some masala in the character. I feel the character suits her perfectly and it is very difficult for someone else to play it. I would like to add more fun to this role.

I would do one thing for sure. Whenever I have a scene with Rupal ma’am, she tells me to be prepared as she won't tell me what to do. She knows that she will do something impromptu and it will have my spontaneous reaction. So, we have a great combination. She improvises a lot in the scenes. It's great and we enjoy and have fun.

How did you bag your first TV show? Any interesting story behind it?

The first proper TV show which I did was Roop- Mard Ka Naya Swaroop for Colors. One of my friends asked me to give an audition as there were walk-in auditions going on in Rashmi Sharma Telefilms. I have never done that for a TV show. We decided to give our introduction and come back. If they like it, they will call us. Then I was called by a casting director. He asked me if I had come for an audition. So, there were people who came for a walk-in audition and some were called by the production house. They called me and my friend and asked us to give an audition for a particular character. After giving the first audition, they found it good. They tried for other characters as well. I was called for a second round audition after a week. I kept giving auditions for a month. After that, I did not get any call for several days and I thought I was rejected. After many days, I was called and they said that Rashmi ma’am liked my look and she wanted to cast me for the heroine's sister. After that, different look tests and mock shoots happened the whole day. Post that, I left and while I was on my way home, I got a call. I got the good news about getting selected and was extremely happy. I had happy tears when I told this to my family.
