Taking care of your skin in the 50’s

Menopause and ageing organs can sometimes play havoc on your skin, which is the largest organ in your body thus more visible than any other. There are certain fat pads that stand out more, for example, the jowls around the jawline, while others like the ones around our eyes seem to reduce thus making us look older.

MUMBAI:  While we all want to embrace aging, there are a few things that we have to take into account for a smooth transition. While in our teens, and 20’s our skins required minimal care and products, 50’s is a totally different ball game. Some of us have naturally supple skins and look much younger than our actual age, some of us might end up looking much older and no one really wants that.

So in our 50’s our skins tend to get dryer and a little problematic if not taken good care of. With so much society pressure to look younger and beautiful, we tend to get a little self conscious and not comfortable in our own skins at times. Although there isn’t much you can do about changing hormones or your increasing age factor, there are some external things you can control and keep your skin looking good.

Plus the skin begins to sag and wrinkles start to appear if we don’t regularly moisturize. Using a good Vitamin C serum during the day, followed by sunscreen and then a good night cream should help you prevent wrinkles for at least 5 more years.

Taking collagen supplements has been said to help in increasing skin elasticity thus making it look more supple. Also, excessive fried, oily, sugary foods must be avoided or reduced as they slow down your metabolism.

All in all, skin care in the 50’s is not that complicated if you start young and keep a routine of washing, moisturizing, applying sunscreen and keeping hydrated with enough water to flush out the toxins from your body.
