MUMBAI:  Indian television shows have been a part of the audience's daily lives for a long time now. Over time, the type and platform of content changed a lot but people still wish to go back to television dramas and call it their comfort zone.

Times have changed but some things never change. We have seen that in almost all the plots of Indian television shows after the girl of the family gets married, the role or part of the girl’s family decreases. This has been the case for the most number of shows.

Before the girl gets married, both families are given proper space but as the girl goes away, the girl’s family’s part falls majorly.

Be it the shows running currently or the ones that used to air before, this has been the case for a very long time. For example, in Imlie currently, after Imlie’s wedding, we are not getting to see much of the Rathore family. Similarly with Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, ever since Abhimanyu and Akshara have reunited, we haven’t gotten to see much of the Goenka family.

The netizens have expressed views about the same. Here is what they had to say:

Mitali Parekh:  I feel really bad as the characters are not being highlighted the same way after a girl gets married. I understand the female protagonist has moved to a different place so the issues change but they need to be seen as well.

Varsha Mehra: I understand that is how the daily soaps work but there can be a change in the way shows are being made. There can be a different set of issues that can be shown. This I feel somehow portrays the bigger meaning of life as well. In life as well, after the girl gets married, the in-laws get more importance.

Praniti Mundhra: I feel this is very stereotypical of the shows to write the story this way. This has been the case for most of the shows and I feel this can change. A new trend can be set and a better one at that.

Mansi Parmar: Indian shows have been following certain storylines since the beginning and they are set on it. I genuinely feel there can be change when it comes to showing more about the girl’s family after she gets married. We can show what all they go through, what sort of issues arise, and how they deal with things.
