MUMBAI: As reported earlier, Akshay Kumar had backed out of the upcoming threequel of beloved family comedy film Hera Pheri. Many people were in shock when they got to know that the actor had backed out of doing the movie. We later got to know that actor Kartik Aaryan had been roped in to replace Akshay for the role of Raju. But apparently, actor Varun Dhawan was first approached for the position but according to reports, he declined the offer.
According to a media portal, Anand Pandit and Firoz Nadiadwala first approached Varun with the Hera Pheri 3 offer. Both of them wanted Varun to essay the role of Raju because of his comic timing. The producers had even asked David Dhawan to direct the film along with his son Rohit Dhawan. But Varun kindly dismissed the offer out of his respect for Akshay Kumar, who made the Hera Pheri series a blockbuster.
A source close to the development was quoted saying, “Varun has tremendous respect for Akshay Kumar and didn't want to use the not-so-good equation between Akshay and Firoz, to climb the ladder of stardom. Hera Pheri 3 is a sure-shot blockbuster, but Varun stepped out of the film out of respect for Akshay. His father, David Dhawan also felt the same.” He further added that Varun and his father David communicated their decision to Firoz and Anand.
Currently, the makers are searching for the director after bringing Kartik onboard. Reports said that director Anees Bazmee was approached to take up the position of director. But nothing is confirmed so far.
The movie Hera Pheri was initially released in the year 2000, and was directed by Priyadarshan. It starred the iconic trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal. The movie is a remake of the 1989 Malayalam film Ramji Rao, which was inspired by the 1971 TV movie See The Man Run.
