Tellychakkar got in touch with the actress where she went down the memory lane.
What is your favourite childhood memory?
Holding my Yamaha piano, sitting on the bed rest and playing it until I fall asleep and fall down.
What’s a prank that either you played on someone or someone played on you?
I did this with my elder sister. Once when we were travelling in a plane, I think we had an argument and I started crying right there. She just saw this and thought “what just happened!?”. I was crying so loudly that everyone was watching and I was like “never argue with me again”. So yes, I can be revengeful.
Tell us about the time when you faced the camera for the first time.
This is very embarrassing but it was my first audition and they give you a white board to write your name and contact number on it. It was my first audition so I asked them why they gave me this. Later, I saw there were a few more people. So, I wrote in a very small size in a corner, ‘1. Gurpreet Bedi’ thinking that everyone will write their names on it. Afterwards I felt so embarrassed because they asked what this is and I told them that it’s because there are so many people. She was like, “That’s not how it works”.
How was it when you got your first paycheck and what did you do with it?
It was a filmy thing to do. I took it to my mother. It was very nominal as I tried to buy something for her. For me, I got Aldo shoes.
What’s a lie that you said when you were a child?
“I am hungry”. I’m a sardar child. I love to eat. So, even when my stomach is full, I would tell my mom that I’m very hungry.
Which hairstyle from your childhood do you regret having?
I’m a sardarni so I had really long hair. I used to see my friends who had blunt cuts and it looked so nice. So I used to tie a ponytail, and then tie a pony tail of the remaining hair, thinking that now I only have that much hair. It was very silly and looked bad but I used to carry it the whole day.
Tell us about the time when you either wrote a love letter or got one.
I studied in the U.K. and I was working in Burger King at that time. There are those liners on the tray on which you keep your burgers, so I served this one guy and after that he went and sat. He then gave the tray to me. I told him not to give it to me as he needs to throw it but he told me to turn it around. So he had written a whole love letter and I didn’t know what to do with it. I kept looking at him while I was serving somebody. I was like “oh my god!”. I mean I was red. The letter had hearts and everything. That was an experience I can never forget.
What’s a habit you have had since your childhood that’s hard to let go?
I can’t believe I’m going to say this. I have been sleeping with a pillow cover in my head since I was 3 years old. I still do it.
What’s your first memory from the first day of your new show?
It was like coming back to my family. It was such a comfortable space for me because I have a connection with Balaji Telefilms before this so I knew the team. I was so eager to come on the sets and work with them. It was lovely. Looking at the cast, we already feel like we’ve known each other for so long. You can see us laughing around, cracking jokes as if we have known each other long back. I think the vibe is nice. It was perfect for me and that’s all I want.
