MUMBAI : Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari is known for directing amazing films like Nil Battey Sannata and Panga. So, when it was announced that she will be directing a web series titled Faadu, the expectations of the audience were quite high. Faadu stars Saiyami Kher and Pavail Gulati in the lead roles, and it has started streaming on Sony LIV. So, does the web series live up to the expectations? Well, read on to know that…
Faadu revolves around Abhay (Pavail) and Manjari (Saiyami). Abhay stays in a basti (slum area) in the suburbs of Mumbai, and Manjari comes from a small village to study in Mumbai. They meet in college and fall in love with each other. Abhay wants to become rich as he has spent most of his life struggling in a slum area and he can do anything to become rich. How greed takes over love and family, is the basic storyline of Faadu!

The basic concept of Faadu is damn good, but what goes wrong here is the screenplay and narration. A few episodes at the start are just very slow, and the build-up isn’t narrated in an interesting way to keep us hooked. The web series picks up well after the 4th episode, but once again in the last couple of episodes, it falters and fails to keep you engaged. Also, some episodes are just too long, maybe editing a few scenes could have made it better.
One thing that Tiwari has done perfectly in the web series is the casting of the leads. Pavail Gulati is perfect as the boy who wants to become rich and achieve everything in his life. Saiyami Kher has given a very strong performance, and in the last few episodes her screen time gets less, and you start missing her. Pavail and Saiyami’s performance is the saving grace of the series. In supporting actors, it is Abhilash Thapliyal who steals the show with his act.

Overall; Faadu is a web series that had the potential to be better. If you are planning to watch don’t keep high expectations, and watch it for Pavail and Saiyami’s performance in it.
