MUMBAI: Abhilash Thapliyal started his career as an RJ and later starred in multiple movies and web series. He was recently seen in the Taapsee Pannu starrer Blurr, and his negative role impressed everyone.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Abhilash and spoke to him about his upcoming projects and more…
Prashant in Dil Juunglee, SK in Aspirants, or Chander in Blurr; which character did you enjoy the most?
Every part is different from the others, and I enjoyed playing all the roles. All the stories are different, they are from different worlds, and as an actor if I don’t explore different worlds and had to do the same thing I would have joined a bank (laughs) to have the same routine. By god’s grace, all the characters have connected with the audience, and I am blessed that I got to play all those characters.
You started as a radio jockey, so was acting planned or it just happened?
I still do radio and I cannot let it go because my lower-middle-class mentality makes me connected to radio as I want a salary at the end of the month. When I was shooting for Blurr, I would shoot, then go in my vanity and do radio, and later come back and shoot again. This happens with all the projects, even if I am shooting, I don’t leave the radio. I had come to Mumbai to become a performer in The Kapil Sharma Show. I did a couple of non-fiction shows; I did Comedy Circus, Entertainment Ki Raat, and others. For acting, I would give credit to director Amit Sharma. He had come to Delhi to promote Tevar and he told me that I should come to Mumbai from Delhi. He told me that I am someone who should be seen visually and that’s why I took the step of resigning from my radio job there and coming to Mumbai.
Tell us something about your upcoming projects…
There’s one show with Navdeep Singh who directed NH10 it’s for an OTT platform. Then I will be seen in Maidaan. I am also a part of a project which is very close to my heart but I cannot talk about it and there are talks for Aspirants season 2 going on. The writing of Aspirants season 2 is going on; discussions about the dates have started. Definitely, by the first half or the first quarter of the next year, we will be done with the shoot.
