Not many OTT series have reached season 3. So, when you started working on season 1 of City of Dreams, did you anticipate that there will be a season 3?
I was hoping that season 2 would come because when I got the briefing from Nagesh sir (Kukunoor) he told me that in the first scene I go into a coma and I get up in the ninth episode. So, he became silent after stating that and then he narrated the second season. So, that’s why I wanted that at least the second season comes or else you will just see me sleeping in the whole series. But, it’s a great thing that we have reached the third season as you rightly said not many series have reached till here.
What to expect from season 3, what will be the USP of the show?
In the first season, we saw my son gets killed by my daughter. The second season ends where her son is killed by my character, and in the third season I am left with my daughter and what she has is only her father. So, I have a feeling when great tragedies happen with great people there is a great chance of transformation, and I think that is something that Amey Rao Gaikwad’s character is looking for, but whether he will be able to transform or he will be able to go to his daughter and win her back; that is what this character is about. It is also about the enemies outside the family. That’s also a huge part of this season.
We are living in a situation where even a tweet can get us into controversies. So, when City of Dreams was offered to you was there a hesitation before signing it that what if it gets into controversies?
I think these days writers don't just need to be talented they need to be smart, so that they can say what they want to say yet keep away from the unnecessary controversies. Nagesh and Rohit are intelligent and talented enough to deliver what they want to without getting into any sort of unnecessary trouble; they are smart enough. So, I was very comfortable and I never even doubted that we would get into any kind of controversy.
City of Dreams season 3 is slated to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on 26th May 2023.
