Tell us more about your background…
I belong to a joint family from a small village near Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. My father is a businessman. And no one in my family is into acting. But my grandfather always wanted to be an actor. I came down to Mumbai eight years back with a dream of being an actor. When I came down, I knew only Balaji Telefilms. You might by surprised to know I had got into business with my dad from Class 8 and made it clear about continuing to be into it if acting didn’t work out for me.
How did Bairi Piya happen to you?
One day, I got a call from the creative head of Bhaskar Bharti, in which I had played a comedy role. She told me to give a look test for it as they were looking out for someone with a similar personality like mine. I gave the test and got selected.
Can you tell us more about your character in the show?
I play Punit, a negative character opposite Thakur Digvijay (Sharad Kelkar). My character is full of negativity and revenge. He feels that the property in the name of Digvijay actually belongs to him. So he is jealous of him and wants the property in his name.
You had played a negative role in your fist show, Love Story. What makes you say yes to negative roles?
I believe that comic and negative roles have no limitations. Positive roles are only about smiling for the camera and glycerin in the eyes whereas a negative role has much more to do. There are several variations to a negative character.
Do you think your character might turn positive in future?
I really don’t know! It’s too early to comment actually.
What kind of roles do you want to play on television?
I want to play intense roles. Something like what Ajay Devgn plays in his films. I am somehow attracted towards serious and intense roles.
Ever thought of switching to films?
I traveled 1000 kilometers with a dream of a 70 mm screen. I remember when I was doing Left Right Left with Anurag Basu; he once told me that television is like net practice for films. Not many know I have done two films already. Unfortunately, one got shelved and the other one was a Bhojpuri film. I have never done theatre.
Any plans of being a part of reality shows?
As you might know already, I started my career with Zee Cinestars Ki Khoj on Zee TV in 2004. That was one good show that gave me good exposure. However, I feel reality shows are all made up. As for dance shows, I just cannot dance!
Tell us something we don’t know about you…
I have done 90 short films on Akbar Birbal for Rajshri Productions on internet. Also, during my initial days, I had gone back to MP four times after giving up in Mumbai.
