This has been expected for quite some time now that Yash Raj Films (YRF) would tread into the South Indian movie space.
Finally, it has done so in style. The production house has decided to remake their 2010 widely acclaimed film Band Baja Baaraat in Tamil and Telugu.
Starring the well-known Nani along with debutant Vaani Kapoor (who can be seen in YRF’s Shuddh Desi Romance) in lead roles, the film, produced by Aditya Chopra is being helmed by Gokul Krishna.
One of the remakes (Tamil), that went on floors end May, has already completed its first schedule in Chennai. The unit will move to Hyderabad and Mysore for the next schedule that will commence early July. Padam Kumar, who heads YRF’s operation in the South, is the creative producer of the project.
This is the first of many new ventures to come from YRF in regional content. The Band Baaja Baaraat remake will be followed by not just other Tamil films, both from YRF’s catalogue as well as new and original content, but also movies that are poised to break into other regional film markets of the South.
