MUMBAI: Addinath Kothare is one of the popular names in the Marathi cinema, and has been a part of a few Hindi films and OTT series. Recently, his Hindi OTT series Bajao was premiered on Jio Cinema.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Addinath and spoke to him about the series, his role, prep he did for his character and more...
You play the character of a rapper in Bajao. So, how easy or difficult was it to portray the role?
It was very challenging; it is something I have never done before. Tejkarran from Jio did my casting, and he believed I could do this role. The character is of a Delhi based rapper. He is the antagonist in the show; he is against Raftaar. I was pretty nervous in the start to get the Delhi accent and the rapper vibe, both the things I never attempted before. Saptaraj Chakraborty and Shiva Varma, the directors, were pretty nervous in the start if I will be able to pull this off. But they gave me amazing support. The first day of shoot was very dramatic for me because the first scene they gave me was the confrontation scene with Raftaar. I was like how can I pull this off? But, when the camera rolled and the first take happened, everybody clapped.

Did you see any rapping videos to prepare for your character?
I saw a lot of rapping videos and I followed a few rappers. I saw the videos of Yo Yo Honey Singh and AP Dhillon, so those things helped me a lot.
Raftaar made his acting debut with Bajao. Did you give him any acting tips?
No, he was so natural. He is a performer; stage performers have ease in them. Raftaar is a surprise package; nobody will imagine it, but he is an absolutely natural actor.
