Ritesh was questioned by the well-known news portal about the 'fiction' allegations. He said, “I don’t know what controversy can be there.” The show's producer said Hussain Zaidi wrote it. He continued by saying that the work he did over that time period may have had an impact.

MUMBAI: The concept of Bambai Meri Jaan is based on the life of Dawood Ibrahim has generated a lot of discussion ever since the show's announcement. The 1960s-set show was rumored to examine not only the growth of the Mumbai underworld but also his competition with other dons, including Haji Mastan, Karim Lala, and Manya Surve.

The film's creators, including co-producer Ritesh Sidhwani, insisted that the trailer was a fictional account of the emergence of crime in "Bambai's" underworld. They even disproved the rumor that it was based on Hussain Zaidi's book Dongri to Dubai, claiming that the author created a fictional tale using all of his experiences from reporting on several crimes.

Ritesh was questioned by the well-known news portal about the 'fiction' allegations. He said, “I don’t know what controversy can be there.” The show's producer said Hussain Zaidi wrote it. He continued by saying that the work he did over that time period may have had an impact.

The co-founder of Excel Entertainment stated, “So obviously there is a very very strong… I don’t know whether it’s an influence or inspiration, but it’s from that time. So you’re taking a little bit of everything that happened and making it into a story with a thread that is completely new.”

In addition, he mentioned how Bambai Meri Jaan looked familiar because it departs much from reality. Ritesh Sidhwani said, “Now that’s the magic you have to do which they’ve done in the writing room. There are going to be [comparisons]. You’re talking about the birth of a free nation and in that background the birth of the underworld. And you’re taking references from what existed at that point and weaving that into our own storyline. So there is nothing to stay away from [the controversy].”

We also got the director to talk about how popular criminal drama is on OTT. portal requested Ritesh to consider what caused people to become enamored with the genre because they nearly started the trend with Mirzapur. He said, “I mean you know it’s my favourite genre for sure. It’s kind of escapist in a certain way. I am not going to say it’s inspiring but it lets you forget about your daily life routine, and indulge in an unknown territory.”

Ritesh Sidhwani added that everyone simply wants to enjoy themselves while consuming information. People prefer streaming content to theatrical releases, he said, as most major productions today are set against a backdrop of crime or gangsters. The director continued, noting that not just men but even women in the audience are fans of the genre.

He added, “If it can distract you, if it can just keep you glued, to me that is a winner hands down. Also I think people like the [drama]. Right now you are seeing that even on social media. You put a really nice positive message, and you get no feedback. And if you put something negative, then see how it goes viral. So I think that’s the thing. It’s just that people like that and it works.”

Kay Kay Menon, Avinash Tiwari, Kritika Kamra, and Amyra Dastur are among the actors who appear in Bambai Meri Jaan. It is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
