MUMBAI: Gone are the days when the small screen was only meant for saas-bahu dramas and melodramatic sequences. Actress Monika Khanna, who will be part of the show Ikk Kudi Punjab Di, says that there is so much new to watch on the small screen today.
“Television shows are bringing in a lot of new content, and this has expanded the scope for actors to perform a wide variety of roles. It’s commendable that creators are striving to introduce fresh ideas on television. Some of these new concepts succeed, while others do not, but this trial-and-error process helps in understanding what the audience truly desires,” she says.
She adds, “Each show typically has a research team that collects feedback from the local audience to gauge their reactions to the story. This feedback loop is essential in determining what the audience wants to watch and appreciate. It’s a positive aspect of the industry as it ensures that content aligns with viewers’ preferences.”
This is a great time to be on TV, she says, adding, “The abundance of new content provides numerous opportunities for both established and aspiring actors to showcase their talents. However, it’s crucial to be fortunate enough to land challenging and performance-oriented characters, as many actors aspire to portray such roles. It can be disheartening for those who don’t get these opportunities.” However, TV shows can no longer go on for years. “One downside is that the longevity of television shows has reduced in recent years, with many series ending after just a few months. This can be disheartening, especially when actors and production teams are just establishing a connection with the audience. Striking a balance where shows run for at least a few months which could be beneficial for actors, the cast, the production house, and the entire crew,” she says.
