RIP! Famous Malayalam art director Sabu Pravada passes away at the age of 70

Sabu Pravada was receiving treatment for an injury that happened a week earlier. He received the esteemed Kerala State Film Award last year for his cinematic book, Punasthapanam Enna Navendrajalam.

MUMBAI: Sabu Pravada, a well-known art director of Malayalam films and a film researcher, passed away on Friday at the age of 70 at the Thiruvananthapuram Hospital. He was receiving treatment for an injury that happened a week earlier. He received the esteemed Kerala State Film Award last year for his cinematic book, Punasthapanam Enna Navendrajalam.

Many Malayalam films, including Rajavinte Makan, Parvathy Parinayam, Pathram, Lelam, Lokpal, Run Baby Run, Manu Uncle, and many more, have included artwork created by Sabu Pravada. His versatility and artistic prowess are evident in the range of Malayalam film genres he has worked in. Ashwin Sabu his son, and Shirley Sabu his wife. The film industry was saddened by his unexpected death because of his priceless contributions and creative genius.

In addition to her work in cinema art direction, Sabu Pravada has played a vital role in the Kerala State Film Academy's designer. His portfolio as a designer also features the esteemed Kerala International Film Festival (IIFK). The man was regarded as a great light in this sector because of his ability to adapt to new artistic techniques. The talented director never intended to hold back while sharing with his assistant and the filmmakers his extensive knowledge of artwork discovered in cinemas.

The Film Employees Federation Of Kerala (FEFKA) designer union was also founded by Sabu Pravadas. He and his union made significant artistic contributions to campaigns for film unions such as FEFKA and MACTA. Sabu Pravada's name will be at the top of the list of the main contributors if Malayalam cinema is recognized for its exquisite settings and setups today.

He was the son of Ernakulam's well-known Pravada Studio owners, Pravada Sukumaran and Menaka Sukumaran. Out of the eight siblings in the family, he was the oldest. His close ties to the film industry stemmed from the fact that his parents owned studios. In addition, he is the brother-in-law of well-known director PG Vishwambharan and the brother of noted still photographer Ambili Pravada.
