MUMBAI: Hits and flops are a part and parcel of the entertainment world. There are many top stars who started their careers with flops and gradually went on to achieve a lot of success. Today we will talk about a superstar who is literally considered as a God of the South film industry with over 160 films to his credit. He has had many mega blockbusters in his career but even he was not spared from the debacle of a flop film.
The star we are talking about is Rajinikanth and the film we are referring to is the Tamil film Baba. Baba is a 2002 Suresh Krissna's Tamil directorial, where Rajinikanth plays the titular role. The film also stars Manisha Koirala and is about a man who is a reincarnation of a great saint from the Himalayas but a non believer of God.
Baba is a supernatural action drama, which was made on a high budget and sold to the distributors for Rs 17 crores.
Due to negative reviews the film flopped at the box office and made only Rs 3 crores. After the film flopped, Rajinikanth reportedly returned nearly 25% of the investment back to the distributors to compensate for their losses.
Now, Baba was remastered and re-released two days before Rajinikanth’s birthday. The re-released version had a different ending with a shorter runtime in 2022. Surprisingly, the film got positive feedback and ran on housefull shows across Tamil Nadu and many other South states.
Rajinikanth will next be seen in Lal Salaam and Thalaivar 171.
