MUMBAI: Vijayakanth, a political leader and an actor who gained massive stardom in the Tamil film industry passed away recently. The actor was a part of more than 100 films in his career and had an immense fan following.
He was 71 years old.
According to reports, Vijayakanth was admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathing problems. He was put on a ventilator. His body was brought to his residence and was taken the DMDK office later.
The actor was fondly known as Captain.
Debina Bonerjee who is a popular face on television marked her debut with Vijayakanth in the Tamil film industry with Perarasu. She took to social media to mourn the loss of the superstar who taught her more about punctuality and humanity.
She shared a picture of him with a note that mentioned:
My first ever Tamil hero.. What an experience to work with Sir in my first tamil film Perarasu. Already a superstar “Captain” is what we all called him as..He’s the one who kind of taught me punctuality and humanity... Always felt proud to do this film with Superstar #Vijaykanth Sad on hearing of his sudden demise.. May your soul rest in peace you were and will always be remembered for all the beautiful times and wise words truly a great leader #OmShanti My condolences to all his close ones, fans and family.

Vijayakanth held a position at Nadigar Sangam (officially known as the South Indian Artistes' Association (SIAA) and Vijayakanth brought revolutionary changes to the South film industry. He was fondly called Captain by people in the industry.
