MUMBAI: Oh Young Soo, an actor from Squid Game, could spend a year in jail for the sexual harassment case. In the well-known South Korean series, the 79-year-old actor played the character of Oh Il-nam. He has been accused of making advances toward and kissing a lady in 2017. On February 2, South Korean media reported that Oh Young Soo's prosecutors had asked for a year in prison. For the uninformed, the actor was charged with sexual assault in November 2022 after a lady filed a case against him in December 2021.

The accuser requested that the case be revived after it had been dropped in April 2022. The Suwon District Prosecutors Office's Seongnam branch requested a one-year jail sentence for the actor at his trial on Friday, along with a prohibition against him working with children or young stars. According to The Straits Times, the officer said that the victim was frustrated because "he avoided his responsibility, saying the victim was 'like a daughter to him', even though the victim asked for an apology."
The Squid Game actor refuted every accusation during the probe. The South Korean celebrity said that he just held the woman's hand and later expressed regret in a statement sent to the Korean channel JTBC. He rejects the accusations, though. “I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake. I apologized because [the person] said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it but it doesn’t mean that I admit the charges,” he said.
“It’s so painful and hard to stand in this court at this age like this. It is miserable that the last chapter of my life to end in such a way, making my whole life fall apart,” Oh Young Soo said.
Thanks to his riveting performance in Squid Game, Oh Young Soo quickly gained international recognition. He received numerous honors, such as a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category and a Golden Globe Award in the Best Supporting Actor in a Series category. He is said to have starred in almost 200 theater productions before Squid Game.
