MUMBAI: Back then, Sharmila Tagore and her late husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, were regarded as one of the most special couples in history. The actress and cricketer couple met in the most glamorous ways possible and went on to make a unique love tale.
Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi passed away in 2011, the couple were married in 1968, and had more than 40 years of happy marriage. Saba Ali Pataudi, Soha Ali Khan, and Saif Ali Khan are the couple's three fortunate children.
In an interaction with Anupam Gupta, Sharmila Tagore remarked that she never shared any of her assets with her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. The veteran actress stated that all of her purchases, including houses, cars, jewelry or any other material possessions are in her name. Speaking about her husband, whom she fondly called Tiger, the actress mentioned that he had his assets, for which he made a will.
She stated, “Everything that I bought, my assets as in houses, cars or anything material, jewelry… has always been in my name. It’s not been shared, not in my husband’s name. And what Tiger has, has been in his name, and of course, he made a will.”
Sharmila Tagore continued the discussion by revealing that a person cannot form a will for their assets by Islamic law. Their own heirs are not eligible to receive their assets, but non-heirs are. For those who don't know, Sharmila converted to Islam after being married. Returning to the subject of her will, Sharmila Tagore said that she and her husband had created separate wills outlining how their assets would be distributed to their three children.
According to her, “In Islam, we are not allowed to make a will so you have to think about that. You can give it to nonheirs, but you cannot give it to your heirs… 25%, 50% like that. So that needs to be very well understood. We have a lot of lands so that needs to be looked at and controlled and made sure that whose name… I have 3 children. Just make sure that everything is in order.”
Previously, Sharmila Tagore appeared on Kaun Banega Crorepati 15, Amitabh Bachchan's reality show, where she shared a unique story about her late spouse Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, whom she described as being quite unromantic.
Sharmila recalled the time she asked her husband to accompany her to the banks of the Narmada River so they could relax and have romantic moments. It was a full moon night. Her husband flatly rejected this, stating that it was already late in the evening.
During an earlier interview with a well-known news source, Sharmila Tagore opened up about her husband Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi's unwavering encouragement of her career even after they were married. The celebrity recalled how it was widely believed in those days that women could not even pursue education or careers after being married.
Furthermore, she stated, “I had a lot of support from my family, my husband, who always gave me space, always supported me in everything. I didn't have to explain myself. So I had that kind of support. I have been very blessed with that. My mother wasn't allowed to go to a co-ed university, she had to do her MA privately. I have been asked, 'How did your husband allow you to work after you got married'. Things are changing. We are going forward."
