MUMBAI: Many people speculate that Salman Khan asked Shah Rukh Khan and the entire Chalte Chalte team to remove Aishwarya Rai from the film, replacing her overnight with Rani Mukerji without Aishwarya Rai Bachchan knowing. This is one of the theories that has gained traction after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's alleged breakup with the actor. In an interview, Aishwarya expressed her surprise at being kicked out of several projects, including Chalte Chalte.

There was a time when Shah Rukh Khan too regretted his decision not to take a stand for Aishwarya at that time, despite her being his good friend. This old video of the Jawan star shows him expressing his disappointment over replacing Aishwarya with Rani because he was also a producer.
For the same, Shah Rukh Khan has publicly apologized to Aishwarya. "Yes obviously, Aishwarya was a very close friend and I have done marvelous films with her. I personally was very saddened to reach something at this level and I feel very sorry about it and I genuinely do. As a producer my hand was very tight because I am not the only producer, we felt the whole affair was very sad, it was not meant to be. It was not a superstitious but a professional decision and even professionally we feel very bad, there are no two ways about it."
Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya have an intense relationship these days and have moved on from their past grudges. Well, nothing is permanent, as they say.
