Is it SRK, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan’s absence during festivals causing the dry spell in theatres?

Surely the unique stories and characters were appealing to the audience but even then, nothing could beat the madness of some massy stories with a typical Hindi movie touch.

MUMBAI: Theatres were all empty during the dark times of pandemic but entertainment didn’t lose its way to us as we found OTT platforms as the new medium. This was a shift we were not expecting but convenience looked too desirable even after the Pandemic which meant that less people stepped into theatres while majority were digging up and watching content that seemed not-so-mainstream to them.

Surely the unique stories and characters were appealing to the audience but even then, nothing could beat the madness of some massy stories with a typical Hindi movie touch. Therefore, while there were not so many people walking into the theatres, the ones that did, surely did it for their favourite massy stories and actors like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan as these are the strongest magnets to pull the crowd.

However, a lot of things changed in the pattern of their movies, be it the stories, subjects, or release dates. Yes, Release dates are important. We all know Christmas belonged to Shah Rukh Khan and Eid belonged to Salman Khan. Their movies were most awaited during these festivals and the audience saw a new shift where they did not get to watch these actors on their expected festivals. Even Aamir Khan movies has been missing lately as the audience used to love the uniqueness he brought to screens.

With the shift happening once again, we can see less releases on OTT and the audience moving back to theatres but the situation is not yet good enough as there is a dry spell currently going on. Big budget movies and action-packed sequences or even some amazing rom-coms are not working as per expectations and the fans have speculated that one reason for it could be the absence of Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan movies releasing the way they used to before.

What’s interesting is that on Eid this year, the audience got excited by the announcement of a Salman Khan movie. The audience is also happy knowing Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par and SRK’s King probably coming this year. Will these movies change the game at the box office?

Well, we don’t know if that’s really the matter but we soon hope for the dry spell to end.
