MUMBAI: In today’s retro news segment let us take a look into the love story of Dharmendra and Hema Malini. The seasoned and veteran stars celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on May 2nd. They continue to shell out the perfect relationship goals for all generations. The pair first met and crossed paths on the sets of 'Tu Haseen Main Jawaan' in 1970. They had developed feelings by the end of the movie. During an interview with Deccan Chronicle the Dream Girl revealed that she had felt that she wanted to share her entire life with Dharmendra.
Love sparked between the duo immediately, but they were sceptical about their love tale. This was Dharmendra was earlier married to Prakash Kaur and had Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta Deol and Ajeita Deol. Despite being married to Prakash, he was attracted towards Hema Malini. She had reportedly even declined proposals from Sanjeev Kumar and Jeetendra.
As Dharmendra was married Hema Malini's dad did not want the pair together. The actress revealed that she wanted to ensure that her marriage did not cause any harm to Dharmendra's first marriage. She had revealed that her marriage to the veteran actor did not separate him from his family.

Post facing challenges from the family, the pair dated for five years before getting married in 1980. Reportedly, Dharmendra's first wife, Prakash Kaur did not consent to a divorce, so he could not marry under the Hindu Marriage Act. Dharmendra had converted to Islam, before marrying the love of his life- Hema Malini.

Hema had also shared a fan clip that showcased the precious memories of Hema and Dharmendra, on the occasion of her 44th wedding anniversary. “Our wedding anniversary today! 44 years of togetherness, 2 beautiful girls, lovely grand children surrounding us and drowning us with their love! Our fans &their limitless adulation! What more can I ask of life? Our eternal gratitude to the Almighty for this gift of happiness,” Hema wrote on Instagram.
