On the Honestly Saying Podcast, Shekhar said, “Shashi Kapoor and Anuradha Patel, who played my wife, and me and his son Kunal Kapoor, were returning from Bangalore to catch a flight. We were sitting in the car, an Ambassador, and we hit a man on the road. He went flying, and then the villagers came and they started hitting all of us.”

The actor continued, “They broke the windshield; they caught Shashi Kapoor by the collar, and they started beating up Kunal Kapoor. There was this actor who’s no more, Mr. Rajesh, they caught hold of his hair and said, ‘We’re going to behead you.’ The man who was actually hit was sitting under a tree, sipping tea and smiling. I don’t know what he was muttering in his native language, but it was so scary.”

Shekhar had previously stated that he received an offer for his debut movie, Utsav, barely two weeks after traveling from Patna to Mumbai. On the first day of shooting, he recalled seeing his co-star Rekha deal with a significant income tax raid. He stated in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, “Any other actor would have packed their bags and gone away. She said, ‘Let them do their job, I’ll stay back and do mine’. I was afraid that my world had come crashing down, that she would leave and the film would get cancelled, my dreams would be shattered.”
