MUMBAI: A lot of people do not know that Saif Ali Khan's former wife Amrita Singh was in a relationship with cricketer Ravi Shastri for the longest time. The pair did not get married and as per a report by ETimes, it was Amrita who rejected Shastri's proposal. Reports with the same publication suggest that it was in November 1986, that the pair had met. Shastri was a promising captain in the Indian cricket team and Amrita also was a rising star.
It was during the photoshoot for CineBlitz magazine cover that they met. The pair separated as Ravi reportedly did not want Amrita to pursue acting after marriage. This condition did not gel well with the diva which left her tensed. Well, it is interesting to note that Ravi and Amrita were madly in love with one another and reportedly, the actress was proposed to by the cricketer in a posh restaurant in New York.
Ravi remained firm on his decision and despite Amrita trying to convince him, they decided to quit their relationship. It was in 1991, Amrita then married Saif Ali Khan who was 12 years younger than her. They were blessed with Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. They got separated in 2004. After their breakup, Ravi also went on a new chapter in his life with Ritu Singh. They were then blessed with Aleka Shastri.
