MUMBAI: The year 2024 has been highly anticipated by the masses. In the first half, while some films arrived with a grand scale, others found a place in the hearts of the audience with their compelling narratives. It’s worth noting that the films have impacted the box office differently, but one film that stood out from all is Yami Gautam Dhar’s Article 370. It is worth reckoning as the first female breakout of the year, creating examples of its success with its story and box office collection.
Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer Fighter started the year with a bang, collecting ₹211.50 crore at the box office. Given the scale and star power, the film worked really well and justified its presence at the box office. Another film, Shaitaan, starring Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, and Jyothika, raked in ₹211 crore worldwide, which indeed came as a surprise. The film made waves with its amazing story and ranks as the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2024, the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024, and the highest-grossing Indian horror film of all time.
Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan collected ₹67 crore worldwide. The film received amazing reviews from all quarters, but despite the positive critical reception, it bombed at the box office. Last but not least, Yami Gautam Dhar’s Article 370 collected ₹74.17 crore. The film emerged as a sleeper hit of 2024, propelling her into the league of successful female-led films. The film ranks 9th among such films.
The first half of 2024 has certainly set the stage for what promises to be an exciting year in cinema. With a mix of high-budget blockbusters and unexpected hits, the industry continues to captivate audiences with its diverse storytelling and dynamic performances.
