MUMBAI: Actor Emraan Hashmi garnered a lot of attention when he referred to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as "plastic" in the rapid-fire round of the fourth season of Karan Johar's discussion program Koffee with Karan.

Emraan faced intense criticism following his 2014 statement, and he disclosed in an interview that he had to live with the consequences for a while. Emraan responded to his controversial comments regarding Aishwarya from ten years ago in a recent interview, saying, “I would love to apologize if she felt offended.”

In an interview with the popular news portal, Emraan Hashmi was asked if he regrets calling Aishwarya “plastic,” to which the actor quickly replied, “I regret it. I keep saying that I have utmost respect for everyone I spoke about.”

Explaining further, the actor said, “I regret it because it was distasteful. Lately, people have become very sensitive. People get mad at everything on social media. In terms of the show, we were playing a game, it was all in jest. It was supposed to be taken sportingly. There are many such games in the show. Earlier, people weren’t this sensitive.”

He said, “Recently, Karan Johar himself confessed that the rapid fire round in the latest season of the show was the most boring. It’s because now, the environment has completely changed. You can’t give such answers anymore. At that time, I just wanted to win the hamper and I ended up saying what I said.”

Although Aishwarya never directly reacted to the comment. In an interview with Filmfare in 2019, the actor said the worst thing anyone has ever said about her is that she is “fake and plastic.”

When asked if he ever met Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi recalled an incident after the release of Hum Dil Chuke Sanam. He said, “I have waited outside Aishwarya Rai’s van for about three hours just to catch a glimpse of her after her film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. I was a huge fan. Mohit and I were shooting in Filmistan, I told him, ‘You cannot go anywhere.’ So we waited together. I still am a big fan of hers.” Despite all the wait, Emraan could never meet her. “I have never met her. I have never had a conversation with her. I would love to meet her. And I would love to apologise if she felt bad about it. I will have to meet her and ask her. I am sorry if I offended you”, said the Murder actor.

In another interview with the popular news portal, he said, “You know what, when that rapid-fire round happened, Karan had cut the shot, and he just looked around on the set and everyone was dumbfounded. He asked, ‘Can you actually keep this (Emraan’s answer)?’ And a couple of people behind the camera said, ‘Yes’.”

Reports of Aishwarya declining a project with Emraan appeared barely two years after Emraan's statement. Aishwarya was reportedly set to feature in a Milan Luthria movie, but she declined when she found out she would need to film multiple sequences with Emraan Hashmi.

Nobody connected to the movie has validated this rumor. Emraan responded to the same by telling the well-known news portal, “I have heard these rumours, but I don’t think it holds any truth. I think people just made a big deal out of it. I honestly don’t know if something of that sort ever happened. You will have to fact check with her.”
