MUMBAI : Among the most popular films of the year is Kalki 2898 AD. Filmmaker Nag Ashwin has spoken out about his decision to star Amitabh Bachchan in his big-budget film which is currently dominating the box office. Recently, Nag Ashwin disclosed to the popular news portal that Big B was his first and last choice to play Ashwatthama in Kalki 2898 AD.

“The four main actors (Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone) we have on board are on everyone’s wish list. Amitabh Bachchan was my only choice for the role of Ashwatthama, who in the Mahabharata is considered to be a great warrior,” he said.

The director further opened up about Amitabh’s action sequences with Prabhas and added, “Bachchan Sir is one of the biggest stars of our country. His character is supposed to be 8-foot tall and very powerful due to the divine blessings he has received. His fight scenes with Prabhas (who plays a bounty hunter), who is considered to be one of the biggest action heroes of contemporary cinema, was a dream for us to pull off.”

In addition to Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan play key roles in Kalki 2898 AD. Director Nag Ashwin has praised Deepika's instinctive fit for her role in "Kalki," saying, “She is the most important part of the story. We had a lot of discussions on it when we were writing as well. I think the simplest answer that we arrived at was whose character do you remove and the story does not exist? And that became Deepika’s character. Because if you remove her character, there is no story. There is no Kalki.”

Following its June 27 release, the movie received an overwhelming response from viewers and has made over Rs 1000 crore at the global box office. Big B recently wrote an appreciation statement on his social media accounts for the movie's success. “T 5062 – the essence of KALKI resounds within and without .. and my gracious gratitude,” he wrote. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the sequel of Kalki.
