MUMBAI: Mahesh Bhatt's 1998 film Zakhm, which stars Ajay Devgn, is still regarded as one of his greatest films. The actor recently revealed he signed the film while having a shower because Bhatt was keen for him to sign the movie. Sonali Bendre and Pooja Bhatt also acted in the film, which was partially based on Bhatt's life.

Ajay talked about his experience working with Mahesh Bhatt in a recent interview with the popular news portal, "It’s lovely to work with Mahesh Bhatt. I was playing him in the film. I remember when I was shooting in Hyderabad... we didn’t have mobile phones then. I was in the shower when the landline in my room rang, the one which used to be placed in the bathroom, close to your shower... I just picked it up, so the voice on the other side said, ‘Mahesh sir wants to speak to you!’"

As Bhatt took over the phone, Ajay told him that he was in the bathroom and would talk to him later. But the filmmaker insisted, "You just listen to me, I am directing the last film of my life, and I am quitting after this." After saying this, he started narrating the story of Zakhm to Ajay.

"He started to narrate the story, but because I was in the shower, I said, ‘Bhatt sahab, I am taking a shower, I will do the film.’ That’s how Zakhm happened. After that, he never made another film. He stuck to his words," the actor shared.

Ajay also recalled Zakhm as a fantastic movie to perform in as well as watch. "There were many scenes which didn't even have dialogues but the scenes were so strong that I just stood there and emoted them," shared Ajay, while adding that Mahesh Bhatt didn't even ask for retakes.  Ajay Devgn took home his first national award for Zakhm.

The actor's next project is Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, directed by Neeraj Pandey and featuring Tabu in the lead role. The movie will be released in theatres on August 2 alongside Ulajh starring Janhvi Kapoor.
