MUMBAI: After a fight with cancer, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor passed away in 2020 during the first lockdown. His wife Neetu Kapoor and children Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Ranbir Kapoor were greatly affected by his death. During a recent conversation, Riddhima shared how her family including her extended family has become closer because of Rishi's death.
“We have all got closer since then. We look after each other a little bit more. It has brought the family very close. A lot of family members have passed on in our (whole) family, all of us have become closer and united,” Riddhima told Anushka Arora.

“We call each other up every other day. We are on FaceTime. We don’t have to meet every single day but we are in touch,” she added.
Rajiv Kapoor also died in 2021, following the death of Rishi Kapoor in 2020. Riddhima thus said that her extended family has become closer in addition to her immediate family.
When Riddhima's father died, she was in New Delhi. With special permission, she went to Mumbai, arriving in time for the funeral. She disclosed in a previous interview that two days before Rishi's hospitalization, he attempted to contact her, but she failed to answer. She admitted that she was still regretful not to answer the phone.
“He tried to call me two days before this happened. He gave me a missed call, I still have it on my phone. That was his last missed call to me and I thought… I wish I had taken that. After that, he couldn’t really respond or talk because he was in the hospital and I still have that missed call saved. I took a screenshot and I saved it. Because that was the last time he called me to actually talk to me. I called him after that but he couldn’t speak,” she told the popular news portal in a new interview.
The family received a lot of trolling after his death. Several others questioned why they skipped over a sad look. Riddhima responded to the trolling by saying that it was the "worst phase" of their lives and that others were unaware of what they had gone through. Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020. Due to the lockdown caused by COVID-19, only the family members attended the funeral.
