MUMBAI: In her career, actress Mita Vashisht has played a range of characters. She made her feature debut in the 1989 film Chandni, starring Sridevi and Rishi Kapoor. In addition, Mita has contributed to several films, including Dil Se, Ghulam, and Taal.
The actress recently discussed how non-stars and TV actors now have more opportunities to experiment with OTT platforms.
Actor Jaideep Ahlawat became a star because of OTT, according to actress Mita Vashisht in a recent interview with the popular news portal. Ahlawat starred in the 2020 series Paatal Lok.
Bollywood actors were first hesitant about learning about over-the-top (OTT) content when the platform debuted in 2017, according to Mita. Non-stars seized the chance and rose to fame.
"Within three years, actors such as Jaideep Ahlawat emerged on national TV and became a big star and a household name through his show Pataal Lok," the actress said.
Mita spoke of Radhika Apte as having "experienced a meteoric rise to stardom". For the uninitiated, Radhika starred in several OTT shows, including Made In Heaven—Season 2, Sacred Games, Ghoul, and Ok Computer.
In the same interview, Mita also cited an example of Vijay Varma of Mirzapur fame, saying that he is a good actor and he received stardom due to OTT. The Dil Se actress further shared that after the success of OTT in India, the established actors or stars "gravitated" towards the medium. However, a lot of projects that they do just don't work, she added.
The most well-known role of Jaideep Ahlawat is that of Hathiram Chaudhary, a police officer in Anushka Sharma's production Paatal Lok. Additionally, he has contributed to OTT series like as Ajeeb Daastaans, Lust Stories, and Bard of Blood.
OTT projects by Vijay Varma include She, Darlings, Dahaad, Mirzapur 2 and 3, and Kaalkoot, among others. His most recent appearance was in the Murder Mubarak movie on Netflix earlier this year.
Jaideep and Vijay worked together on the 2023 film Jaane Jaan, directed by Sujoy Ghosh. Kareena Kapoor Khan played the lead part in the film as well.
