Munmun Dutta speaks on Disha Vakani's departure from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for the first time; ‘We have so many good memories together’

MUMBAI : Munmun Dutta talked about for the first time that Disha Vakani left Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. During a recent interview, Munmun talked about previous work with Disha, who was the popular sitcom's Dayaben character, and said how much she misses her.

“We always remember those who left us, even the ones who quit the show. I miss Disha a lot. Whenever we crack jokes, we recall, “Remember when Disha said this or that?” We have so many good memories together. Whenever Disha would get calls from unknown numbers, she would change her voice before answering them,” Munmun told the popular news portal.

The audience loved Disha Vakani's portrayal of Daya Tappu Ke Papa Gada. She did take an indefinite maternity leave in 2017 and hasn't come back. Asit Modi has been saying a lot lately that they are looking for a new Dayaben.

“The audience of the show has been patiently waiting to see their favourite Dayaben back on the show. The casting for the character isn’t easy and it will be a challenge for any actress to step into Disha’s shoes. We will need a brilliant performer for the part,” Modi told the popular news portal in August 2023.

Later, Asit Modi was asked if he was sick of responding to enquiries about Dayaben's return in an interview with the well-known news outlet.

Asit gave a hearty nod, but he also noted that, as the show's makers, he would have to respond to fans. In addition, he referred to Disha Vakani as his "sister" and said that he would be overjoyed if she decided to return.

“I will have to answer. I am also tired of answering and requesting people not to ask this question. But I am the producer of the show and therefore I’ll have to answer. Even today I wish that our original Daya Bhabhi aka Disha Vakani comes back. Disha is like my sister. She wants to spend time with her family. She has two kids. If she does not want to come back, I cannot force her,” he said.

Throughout the show's 16-year run, Disha Vakani is not the only actor to have left TMKOC. Several other actors left the show as well, including Jennifer Mistry, Kush Shah, Raj Anadkat, and Gurucharan Singh.
