He opened out about how he once got harsh critique from a director who called him "ugly." King Khan recalled, "He [a director] said the most attractive part of you is that you’re very ugly, you know, because all these heroes, they look really Swiss chocolate-like. In response to the director's criticism, Shah Rukh Khan chose to play darker and more complex characters than the typical hero.

According to the well-known news website, Shah Rukh Khan talked about an incident where a filmmaker remarked on his unconventional look during the 77th Locarno Film Festival.

The filmmaker observed that Khan's most polished quality was his distinctive and unconventional appearance, in contrast to other actors who had the refined aspect that makes "Swiss chocolate."

Speaking with Giona A. Nazzaro, the festival's director, Khan recalled this incident and explained how his distinctive appearance made him stand out in the industry.

Shah Rukh Khan responded to the director's critique by taking on roles that strayed from the typical hero image. He chose to portray darker, more complex characters. The Dunki actor shared that this early experience prompted him to take on villainous roles, including his part in Yash Chopra’s Darr, which was shot in Switzerland.

During this period, Yash Chopra approached him with a surprising offer for a romantic lead, remarking, "I want to cast you in a love story. You don’t look such a bad guy." This led to Khan being cast in the iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, directed by Aditya Chopra. Reflecting on the shift in his career, SRK humorously noted, "I’m now the Swiss chocolate boy."

Shah Rukh Khan was honored with the Locarno Career Achievement Award on Saturday. The crowd was singing along to some of his hit songs during the dynamic and interactive event. Khan also performed his signature arms-outstretched position, saying that choreographer Saroj Khan had come up with the clever move to enable him to avoid difficult dance moves.

Shah Rukh Khan spoke candidly about his next action movie, which is helmed by Sujoy Ghosh, during the same festival. The actor revealed his upcoming project, King, in a now-viral video. He added that to fulfil the physical demands of the action sequences, he must get in shape and lose weight to play the part.

Khan revealed that he has been thinking about this project for the past few years. Khan got the Pardo alla Carriera award during the festival. King is directed by Sujoy Ghosh, and stars Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Suhana Khan.
