MUMBAI: Comedian Bharti Singh talked candidly recently about the last conversation she had with Sidharth Shukla, a week before his tragic death. On September 2, 2001, Sidharth, a popular TV star, died at Mumbai's Cooper Hospital from a heart attack.

When Bharti met Sidharth and his mother in Lokhandwala, Sidharth introduced her to his mother, and they struck up a conversation. Bharti was just in the early stages of her pregnancy when they had their brief encounter. She talked about how she was unable to bring herself to tell Sidharth about the pregnancy.

“I was in my first trimester, and I couldn’t share the news with him. It just didn’t feel like the right time,” Bharti said. The news of Sidharth’s sudden death came as a shock to her, leaving her feeling breathless. Bharti recalled, “I knew him well, having worked together on two shows. When I heard the news, I felt a tightness in my chest.”

Due to her health, doctors recommended her to be calm and not to attend Sidharth's funeral. Along with sharing memories of her time spent working with Sidharth, Bharti talked about her time on the sets of India's Got Talent. She laughed heartily when she recalled how Sidharth would annoy her on set, even though she would try to be mad at him.

“Sidharth ne mujhe IGT mein bada tangg kiya. Bada tangg karta tha,” Bharti shared, chuckling. “He would go into his van and not come out, while I would be waiting for him. I used to think, ‘When he comes out, I’ll show him I’m upset,’ but he would always manage to make me laugh,” she added.

Bharti's husband, Haarsh Limbachiyaa, also recalled Sidharth. He focused on his rise to popularity following Bigg Boss 13 and their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Haarsh told how, during the pandemic, they produced a show called Hum Tum Aur Quarantine and used video calls to convince Sidharth to make a special episode.

“The video was large, and it couldn’t be transferred online. Sidharth, being the generous person he was, drove down to our building just to hand over the video,” Haarsh said, praising the dedication and kindness of the late actor.

The unexpected death of Sidharth Shukla has left a hole in the hearts of his friends, admirers, and the entertainment industry as a whole, but his legacy endures in the memories that his loved ones have kept.
