Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya actor Ashish Dixit on performing emotional scenes: Some actors use glycerin to make themselves cry, but that’s not my way

MUMBAI: Every actor has their own method of stepping into a character's shoes, and for Ashish Dixit, the star of Sun Neo's popular show Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, it’s all about connection. Playing the lead role of Kartik, Ashish shares the mindful process he follows to fully immerse himself in his character, ensuring every scene feels authentic and true.

“We have a lot of fun on set, laughing and joking around. But when it’s time for an emotional or romantic scene, I can't just flip the switch,” he says. “Some actors use glycerin to make themselves cry, but that’s not my way. I need to feel the moment. So, I take 10 to 15 minutes by myself, maybe watch something related to the scene or listen to emotional music, to get in the zone. Once I'm there, I give it my all with real emotions.”

The Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya actor also talked about how he handles scenes with fewer lines. “When I don’t have much dialogue, I focus on using my eyes to express what my character is feeling—whether it’s anger or intensity. My acting coach once told me that actors can be selfish because we want our performance to stand out on screen. He also taught me to keep my thoughts hidden while expressing emotions. When I’m playing an angry character, I try to pull from real-life stress, and sometimes, staying silent is more powerful. I believe that when you don’t speak, your eyes do the talking.”

Ashish plays the role of Kartik opposite Brinda Dahal, who portrays Vaishnavi in Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya. Airing on Sun Neo at 7 PM, the show follows Vaishnavi, an orphan who reveres Chhathi Maiyya (played by Devoleena Bhattacharjee) as her mother. Audiences are loving the onscreen chemistry between Ashish and Brinda. The show also features Sara Khan, Jaya Bhattacharya, and Maitri Bhanushali in pivotal roles.

Tune into Sun Neo to watch Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, airing every Monday to Saturday at 7 PM.
