MUMBAI : Prime Video is set to dive into the thrilling world of international espionage with Citadel universe’s upcoming series, Citadel: Diana. Starring the supremely talented Matilda De Angelis in the lead role, the highly anticipated show promises to deliver a captivating blend of action, drama, and suspense.
Set in a dystopian Milan, eight years after the destruction of the independent global spy agency Citadel, Diana Cavalieri finds herself trapped behind enemy lines as a mole in the powerful syndicate, Manticore. Her perilous existence takes a dramatic turn when she discovers an opportunity to escape and disappear forever. However, this path to freedom requires her to trust the most unlikely ally: Edo Zani, the heir of Manticore Italy.
Matilda De Angelis, who brings the protagonist Diana to life, shared her excitement about the series. "I remember my first meeting with Gina and Arnaldo, where they showed me all the sets, props, and guns. I was immediately drawn to this world," she recalled. De Angelis added, "It was a unique experience for an Italian actor, as this genre is still relatively unexplored for us. And when I read the script, I realized the immense challenge of stepping into Diana's shoes. She required massive physical work, which was a driving force for me to accept the role."
Beyond the physical demands, the actress was fascinated by Diana's complex inner world. "She carries a beautiful, dense, and loaded internal world throughout the series," De Angelis explained. "I was incredibly excited when I read the first two episodes. It was a new and thrilling challenge for me." The series promises to be more than just a high-octane action thriller. "All the scenes labeled as action scenes are actually emotional, character-building scenes framed as action. The challenge was to give credibility, emotion, and humanity to Diana in all phases of her growth," De Angelis noted.
Directed by  Arnaldo Catinari and developed by Alessandro Fabbri, who also serves as the head writer, Citadel: Diana is poised to redefine the espionage genre, offering audiences a thrilling and thought-provoking narrative. Boasting a talented cast, including Matilda De Angelis, Lorenzo Cervasio, and Maurizio Lombardi, a nail-biting storyline, and stunning visuals, the series assures viewers of an adrenaline-filled ride. The Italian series, from the world of Citadel, produced by Cattleya – part of ITV Studios – and Amazon MGM Studios, and executive produced by the Russo Brothers’ AGBO and David Weil, will premiere
