Shivangi Verma: Celebrity weddings inspire people to make their big day memorable

MUMBAI : When it comes to celebrity weddings, actress Shivangi Veram says that the bigger the better! She adds that this gives many ideas to other people about how to do make their big days also special. However, she adds that the main crux of a wedding, that is celebrates a bond between two people and their families should not be forgotten.

“It shows how central marriage is to our culture. I think weddings are such a joyous celebration in India, not just for the couple but for entire families. The scale of it really reflects our love for grand occasions and celebrating love in a big way. But it also makes you wonder how much effort and planning goes into making each one unique and special,” she says.

She adds, “Celebrity weddings are truly stunning, and they definitely inspire people to make their big day memorable. Everyone wants their wedding to feel special, and sometimes that means going beyond one’s usual budget. While it’s wonderful to see families come together to make the day perfect, I think it’s also important to remember that a wedding is about the bond between two people, not just about matching a celebrity-style setup. Staying within one’s limits can be just as beautiful and meaningful.”

She says that weddings have become very extravagant now. “Weddings today are almost like mini-movies! Earlier, they were more straightforward, with just a few rituals and a bit of celebration. Now we have endless ceremonies, tons of outfits, and so many details. While it’s lovely to see creativity and personal touches, sometimes I miss that simple charm of a classic wedding. It had a different warmth, a more relaxed vibe,” she says.

She adds, “Weddings now have a whole social media angle. It feels like everyone wants that perfect photo or video, and some of the focus has shifted to ‘likes’ and ‘followers.’ While it’s natural to want to share the joy, I believe weddings are personal moments, and it’s nice to balance the private and public. A wedding should be about making memories for a lifetime, not just for a post or a story.”

Ask her which celeb wedding she loved, and she says, “One wedding that really felt like a dream was Pulkit Samrat and Kirti Kharbanda's .  It was such a beautiful blend of traditional and modern culture , and everything about it was just magical – from the outfits to the rituals. I really admire celebrities who keep their weddings low-key. It’s refreshing to see that some of them focus on the bond rather than all the extra glitter. Randeep Hooda and Lin laisham's wedding, for example, was so simple and heartfelt. They set such a beautiful example that love doesn’t need extravagance. It reminds everyone that the true essence of a wedding is about love and commitment, not just the grand setup.  I think it set such a sweet example of how two cultures can come together so seamlessly.”
