MUMBAI: Producer Abhigyan Jha, known for his groundbreaking projects, including the hit late-night show Jai Hind and Movers & Shakers, is set to revolutionize live entertainment with his bold new improv stage show, FSEX (The Free Speech Experiment), in collaboration with actor Sumit Kaul, best known for his role in Tanav. The show, premiering on November 7th, promises to be an interactive experience like no other, offering real-time conversations with audiences on a variety of topics centered around free speech and expression.
Jha, a pioneer in India’s stand-up comedy scene, has significantly contributed to the evolution of comedy and helped shape the careers of some of India’s biggest comedy talents. His latest venture, FSEX, is designed not as a typical podcast but as a live stage event where audience participation drives the conversation. “In today's world, free speech is under attack even in democracies,” Jha explains. “Without it, democracy becomes unlivable. Now is the time to speak up, and we are doing it with humor and improv.”
The unique selling point of FSEX, according to Jha, is its emphasis on long-form, unscripted conversations, which stand in contrast to the quick, short-form content dominating social media. "This is not an interview or a scripted event," says Jha. "Each performance is driven by the audience, making every show a fresh and unpredictable experience."
Sumit Kaul, a seasoned actor known for his nuanced performances in films like Mulk, Tanaav, and Hamid, brings a distinct emotional depth to the stage. His approach to conversation is compassionate and experience-driven, which perfectly complements Jha’s irreverent and thought-provoking style. Kaul’s ability to engage with a wide range of perspectives and maintain a sense of fun and positivity, even during intense discussions, adds an extra layer of appeal to the show.
Together, Jha and Kaul aim to create a space for free speech and dialogue that is not only thought-provoking but also entertaining. FSEX is poised to become a must-watch event, blending humor, audience interaction, and bold discussions that challenge the status quo.
