Actress Kate Winslet says Disney’s Moana holds a special place, calls the titular lead strong, resilient and powerful

 Moana

MUMBAI : Disney Studios’ widely celebrated film Moana is all set to premiere its sequel Moana 2, that will see Dwayne Johnson and Auli'i Cravalho reprising their titular roles of Moana and Maui. Celebrated for its strong female protagonists and empowering themes, Moana is a courageous and independent young woman who defies societal expectations to fulfill her destiny as a wayfinder. Both films highlight the importance of self-discovery, cultural heritage, and the power of female leadership, making them powerful and inspiring stories for audiences of all ages.

Academy award-winning actress Kate Winslet recently shared her admiration for Disney’s Moana. Speaking up about the representation of women in Disney’s much-celebrated film Moana, she candidly said, “From a young age now, and all the mums remember this as well, you have to say to your daughters – ‘I am proud of myself, I feel good about how I look, you look amazing!’ Because guess what? With social media they may never hear it from anyone else. You have to tell them. And that’s why that film (Moana) is so special to me. Because there’s that beautiful girl. She’s strong, she’s resilient, she’s powerful. She’s going out into the world by herself, and she’s got this gorgeous, soft, normal shape! I just love it.”

Resonating with Winslet, actor Dwayne Johnson who has not only produced Moana but also essays the role of Maui in the film, responded saying, “We had a moment backstage, where we were talking about Moana. And so, for us, as the filmmakers of Moana, it was important to us as well, to make a film where the female character, the young woman is empowered. So, thank you for saying that.”

Moana 2 is all set to hit the theatre in India in both Hindi and English. While the trailer of this much-awaited film has already broken records as a Disney movie with the highest-viewed trailer on social media, fans eagerly await Moana and Maui to reunite on screens this November!

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical Moana 2 premieres in theatres in India from November 29, 2024.
