"Rakhi is about anyone who protects and stands by you,"-Shivangi Verma

Shivangi

MUMBAI: For actress Shivangi Verma, Raksha Bandhan is a deeply emotional festival, even if it’s not celebrated the traditional way. “I don’t have a brother, I have a sister,” she shares honestly. “But Rakhi has never felt incomplete. Every year, I tie Rakhi to my father. He is the one who has always protected me, supported me, and stood by me like a rock.”

This year, Shivangi plans to celebrate the day with her family at home. “It will be a simple celebration, just the way I like it—some laughs, sweets, and lots of love,” she says with a smile.

She adds that her bond with her sister is also very special. “My sister and I are very close. We share everything—from silly jokes to serious talks. But when it comes to Rakhi, it has always been a moment between me and my dad,” she explains.

Talking about how her Rakhi celebrations have changed over the years, Shivangi says,
“Earlier, I saw Rakhi as a ritual. But now, I see it as a chance to thank the people who always protect me. For me, Rakhi is about emotion, not just tradition.”

When it comes to gifts, she keeps it simple and thoughtful. “I give my dad small gifts he can use—like a shirt, his favorite snacks, or a watch. But I always write him a handwritten note. That’s my favourite part,” she shares.

Remembering a low phase in her life, Shivangi gets emotional. “There was a time when I was really down. My dad didn’t say much, but his silent support was everything. Just knowing he was there gave me strength,” she says softly.

“That’s what Rakhi means to me—being there for each other,” she ends
