MUMBAI:  Bharti Singh is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated comedians in the country today. Over the years, she has carved a unique space for herself in the entertainment industry, breaking stereotypes and proving that comedy isn’t just a man’s domain. One of the few female comedians in India to have earned widespread respect and recognition, Bharti has time and again impressed audiences with her impeccable comic timing, witty punchlines, and larger-than-life stage presence.

While Bharti Singh is known for bringing endless laughter to millions, her own life story is filled with struggles and heartbreak. Born into a lower-middle-class family, Bharti’s childhood was far from easy, as she often battled the harsh realities of survival. In a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, the comedian opened up about the darker, lesser-known side of her early years.

Bharti revealed that she was an “unwanted child.” She shared that her mother, overwhelmed by poverty and hardship, did not want to continue the pregnancy and even tried natural methods of abortion. From consuming ayurvedic jadibootis to physically straining herself by wiping floors in a squatting position, her mother hoped to terminate the pregnancy. But Bharti survived against all odds.

She further recalled the circumstances of her birth, revealing that her mother couldn’t afford proper medical care and ended up delivering her on her own. “A female doctor was called only to cut the umbilical cord, for which she charged ₹60. I was born in just sixty rupees. And today, I’ve gifted my mother a house worth ₹1.6 crore,” Bharti shared with pride.

Her journey from an unwanted child to one of India’s most loved entertainers is nothing short of inspirational—truly a testament to resilience, grit, and destiny.
