MUMBAI: In a heartbreaking development, popular Punjabi singer and actor Rajvir Jawanda passed away on Wednesday, October 8, after battling for his life for 11 days on a ventilator. The artist had sustained severe injuries in a tragic road accident near Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, on September 27.
According to reports, Rajvir was on his way to Shimla when he lost control of his motorcycle in Solan district, leading to a major crash. He was immediately rushed to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, where he arrived around 1:45 PM. Despite intensive medical attention and neurosurgical efforts, the singer suffered critical head and spinal injuries, and his neurological condition remained extremely fragile with minimal brain activity.
Over the past 11 days, Rajvir had been on life support, and while doctors continued their best efforts, his condition failed to improve. He is survived by his wife and two young children.
The Punjabi entertainment industry and fans across the globe had been rallying in prayer and support since news of his accident broke. Artists including Diljit Dosanjh, Gippy Grewal, Ammy Virk, Neeru Bajwa, and Kanwar Grewal expressed their concern and extended prayers for his recovery.
During one of his live concerts in Hong Kong, Diljit Dosanjh had paused mid-performance to urge fans to pray for Rajvir’s health, saying, “Dua mei asar hai” (There is power in prayer).
Rajvir’s mother had also revealed that several of his colleagues and friends from the Punjabi music fraternity had stepped forward to assist with the rising medical expenses and offer emotional and financial support to the family.
Rajvir’s untimely demise has left a void in the Punjabi music industry, with fans remembering him for his soulful voice, humility, and contribution to regional music and cinema.
