MUMBAI: Actor Govinda has issued a public apology after his wife Sunita Ahuja’s comments about Pandit Mukesh Shukla sparked controversy online. In her recent appearance on Paras Chhabra’s podcast, Sunita spoke about Govinda’s visits to pandits and claimed he spends large amounts of money on rituals.
She also remarked that the pandit he consults charges two lakh rupees for pujas, adding that she personally does not believe such rituals bring any benefit. Sunita further stated that good deeds and prayers should be done directly, without middlemen.
As her comments spread across social media, Govinda released a video apology on November 4. He explained that both Pandit Mukesh Shukla and his late father have been associated with his family for many years and have supported him during difficult times.
Govinda made it clear that he disapproved of his wife’s remarks and said, "My wife made disparaging remarks against Pandit Mukesh Shukla on the podcast, and I condemn them. My deepest apologies." He also emphasized that he holds great respect for the pandit and his family.
Sunita had also criticized the people around Govinda, saying they give him bad advice and don’t like her because she speaks openly. Despite such public controversies and frequent divorce rumors, Govinda and Sunita have maintained a strong marriage since 1987, raising two children—Yashvardhan and Tina Ahuja.
