MUMBAI: Ayushmann Khurrana is one of Bollywood’s most unconventional and A-list star, known for choosing bold, experimental, and socially relevant films. With multiple ₹100-crore successes and National Awards, he has built a unique identity as a risk-taker who still delivers hits.
Thamma is Ayushmann’s recent blockbuster that crossed ₹100 crore. Co-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, it is part of Maddock Films’ expanding horror-comedy universe, strengthening Ayushmann’s image as a versatile hit-maker.
Sooraj Barjatya is one of Indian cinema’s most respected filmmakers, known for grand family entertainers like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. His films celebrate Indian values, emotions, family bonds, and timeless love stories.
The title “Prem” has always been a signature name for Salman Khan in Sooraj Barjatya’s movies, symbolizing innocence, romance, and ideal Indian heroism. Now, Ayushmann Khurrana is set to become the new Prem, carrying forward Barjatya’s legacy in a modern style. Ayushmann himself joked, “I’m the new Prem Prem se bolo Jai Mata Di!”
Ayushmann Khurrana is on a career high after the massive success of Thamma, his fifth ₹100-crore hit. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, the actor opened up about his upcoming films and delivered a major announcement that he is officially teaming up with Sooraj Barjatya for a family drama.
With a smile, Ayushmann shared that he grew up watching Barjatya’s iconic movies and that taking on the title of “Prem,” once owned by Salman Khan, feels special.
He revealed that although Sooraj Barjatya is known for traditional feel-good family entertainers, this new film will also carry a strong message—subtle, emotional, and not preachy. “It matches my sensibilities,” Ayushmann said, expressing how both he and Barjatya have met in the middle of their storytelling styles.
Beyond Rajshri Productions, Ayushmann confirmed two more exciting films—one with Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, and another with YRF and Posham Pa. Both projects are described as “genre-breakers,” staying true to Ayushmann’s love for fresh, unconventional cinema.
The actor wrapped up by confirming three releases next year:
Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 , The quirky Dharma–Sikhya film, Sooraj Barjatya’s family drama, where he plays Prem.
With a perfect mix of legacy cinema and bold experimentation, Ayushmann Khurrana is gearing up for one of his most exciting years yet.
